North Carolina’s Tar Heels are headed home sooner than they had hoped after Saturday night’s defeat to Kansas in the Final Four semifinals in San Antonio.
A team spokesman said the Tar Heels would depart for their return trip at about 10:30 a.m. (Central time) Sunday en route to Chapel Hill.
They had hoped to be staying until Tuesday — meaning they would have played in Monday night’s NCAA championship game.
Unclear was the traveling plans for junior forward Tyler Hansbrough because the Naismith Player of the Year award is to be presented Sunday night in San Antonio. Hansbrough would be considered the leading candidate for that award.

I made my way down to Ace speedway last night to see a little action , and I noticed that the stands were only about half full. I was thinking that maybe the heat, high gas prices, or was there an unanounced holiday , I did’nt know what was going on,unnnntil thats right unnntil 8pm rolled around and the races did’nt start. However the folks at Ace offered up what they called a watermelon race, which left most of the people on the back stretch to say the least annoyed. So at last 8:50rolls around and were off to the races. But still the question haunted me about the lack of audience participation, and after some verbal reserch with the people around me, and one driver from the modified divison who is not happy with some of the dicisions the track officials are making ,and at one point during the festivities the anouncer invited everyone to please bring their friends out to the races and the gentleman to my left made the comment (I would’nt won’t to make any of my friends mad) . I stayed until the last race was about to begin, which I believe was about 11:40, at which time I decided I had seen enough. On my 30 min. drive home to greensboro it gave me time to think about the evening’s event. First I came for a race not watermelon, second they can throw away al the flags in the flag stand but the black one because they use that one more than any of the other ones. Ok one more comment and i’ll shut up. My personal opinion is STOP all this prerace CRAP and let the drivers race, RUBBIN IS RACIN……… thank you for letting me vent
